Harvard Generational African American Students Association

Generational African-American (GAA) refers to the descendants of Africans who were enslaved in the United States. This identity recognizes the distinct historical and cultural lineage shaped by centuries of resiliance and cultural innovation, leaving an enduring impact on American society.

The Generational African American Students Association (GAASA) was established in 2019 to foster community amoung Generational African-American students at Harvard while promoting education, dialogue, and advocacy surrounding the enduring legacy of slavery in the United States. We are committed to creating a supportive space where students can celebrate their shared history, strengthen connections across the broader Black community, and engage with Harvard University as a whole. Through programing, scholarship, and community engagement, GAASA seeks to deepen understanding of the historical and contemporary experiences of Generational African-Americans and inspire meaningful social awareness and lasting change.
